School Survey: New Updates for 2009/2010
This year The Learning Bar has made some compelling changes to the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) school survey system, by expanding and reorganizing the measures and benefits on offer.
Tell Them From Me (TTFM) 2.0 offers two distinct student surveys for middle school and high school students (grades 6-12): the TTFM Effective Schools Survey, and the TTFM Healthy Schools Survey.
Each of these surveys has its own unique measures; at the same time, they share a set of additional common measures.

and benefits of TTFM 2.0
Common Core of Measures
With both of these unique surveys, we offer a Common Core of Measures (what we consider to be our Continuous Monitoring measures). At the start of the year, a district can choose which of these measures to include as part of the survey that all their schools will use for the year.
Effective Schools Survey
This is our new "flagship" survey, building on the TTFM "engagement-wellness-climate" survey that we have been developing for the past five years. Its unique new measures are grouped into the topics Social Engagement, Institutional Engagement, Intellectual Engagement, Risky Behaviours, Academic Outcomes and Quality Instruction. See the Student Survey page for more details.
Healthy Schools Survey
This survey also offers a unique set of measures focused on Physical Health and School Safety. These include Nutrition, Healthy Weight, Risky Behaviours, Bullying, and Sexual Health. See the Student Survey page for more details.
Elementary School Survey
We have also created an Elementary School Survey suitable for grades 4 and higher. Measures include Social/Emotional Outcomes such as Participation, Truancy, Sense of Belonging, Use of After-school Time, and Emotional Health; Physical Health outcomes such as Nutrition and Healthy Weight; School Context including measures such as Bullying, School Safety and Student Advocacy; and Classroom Context measures such as Effective Learning Time, Teacher/Student Relations, Teacher Expectations for Success. There is also a downloadable Pre-Survey Lesson Plan for homeroom teachers to assist them with introducing students to surveys in general, and to the Elementary School survey in particular.
Customizable Survey
Also new for this year is the ability to customize your survey at the district level. The district may choose to de-select measures from the chosen theme or add others from our extensive new menu, allowing you to focus exactly on what is important to you.
Create Multiple Choice Questions
As well as our popular Open-Ended Question feature, you now have the ability to create two Multiple Choice Questions. You can also use the responses from these questions as a drill-down for the rest of your data. For example, you may ask students to choose which feeder school they came from, and then examine your survey results by feeder school. Furthermore, if you already use a survey with some questions that are not covered in TTFM, then using these custom question features gives you the opportunity to combine the two surveys into one, lightening the survey load for you and for those taking the survey.
What does this mean for me?
You can take advantage of a powerful tool that equips you with a wide range of reliable and trusted survey measures, the ability to craft your survey to fit your priorities, gather data with ease, and the functionality to report and monitor feedback from students, teachers and parents in a practical way.
The Learning Bar school survey is designed by Dr. J. Douglas Willms, elected member of the US National Academy of Education and President of The Learning Bar, ensuring that you can rely on these measures to get to the source of known factors that affect academic achievement and other school outcomes.
For current customers of The Learning Bar, the same measures that you have been using will still be available to you as before, with the option to include these new measures if desired.
